Congratulations to Boorondara’s Coral Ross, AM

Member for Hawthorn John Kennedy congratulates Coral Ross, former President of the Municipal Association of Victoria and the Australian Local Government Women’s Association, for her appointment as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the 2021 Queen’s birthday honours list.

Coral Ross, AM

Ms Ross is one of Victoria’s longest serving councillors and current chair of the Australian Gender Equality Council. It is pleasing to see this just recognition for her many years of service to local and gender equality.

Retiring from local government in October 2020, Ms Ross served as a councillor for the City of Boroondara for more than 18 years, including three terms as Mayor.

Ms Ross has also been National President of the Australian Local Government Women’s Association, Deputy Chair of the Australian Gender Equality Council and a director of the National Rural Women’s Coalition.

As a Churchill Fellow, Ms Ross travelled overseas in 2020 prior to the COVID pandemic to observe what has been done to improve gender equality in local governments across the US, Canada, UK, Sweden and Germany.

It is a point of pride for the Hawthorn electorate to have had the leadership of Ms Ross in the local ranks.
